Our History

2020

In 2020, during the wake of unprecedented global movements for social justice, Black Men Coalition was founded with a dedicated mission to uplift Black men and youth and dismantle pervasive stereotypes. At its core, the guiding principle was to create a world where equality isn’t just an ideal but a reality for all. At that time, our organization focused on community outreach, employment programs, and advocacy initiatives specifically designed to empower the Black male community.

Through hard work, perseverance, and the unwavering support of our donors and volunteers, we were able to make significant strides toward our goals and expand our support and services. While our beginnings were rooted in dismantling harmful narratives about Black men and youth, our mission has grown to meet the needs of the broader community.

Today, we proudly support people of all races and genders through programs that foster empowerment, fairness, and opportunity for everyone we serve.

Our Mission

To foster and develop a safe and inclusive environment for those most vulnerable in Dane County through community involvement, mentorship, education, employment skills, and supported housing. By providing these opportunities we believe we are generating a sense of belonging, which is critical to social and emotional development (all genders and all races)

Our Vision

We're focused on creating positive outcomes for vulnerable populations. We strive to open doors for those most vulnerable to allow them to have a variety of opportunities and positive representation in the community. Our members and volunteers provide resources that help us affect change, and our goal is to provide the resources and solutions to influence positive change and independent living in the lives of those we serve.

Our Purpose

BMCF programming was created by Black men who have overcome the school-to-prison pipeline and other systemic barriers, drawing on lived experience to reimagine what real support looks like for our communities. We intentionally focus on those who have been overlooked, who may carry deep mistrust of traditional human service systems, or who may not even know that help is available. By meeting people where they are, we break down barriers to opportunity, replace isolation with connection, and empower individuals to see, and believe in, their own strength and potential.
