Bookkeeper
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay Rate: $35.00/hour

Position Summary
The Black Men Coalition Foundation is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Full-Time Bookkeeper to support daily accounting, financial recordkeeping, grant tracking, and audit documentation. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate records, processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, coding transactions properly, completing monthly bank reconciliations, and supporting financial reporting and audit readiness. The Bookkeeper will work closely with leadership and the organization’s CPA/CNA to ensure all transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system and maintain accurate general ledger activity.
- Code expenses and revenue by program, funder, grant, department, class, and project as required.
- Process vendor invoices, bills, reimbursements, payment requests, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and record invoices, pledges, donations, reimbursements, contract payments, and grant revenue.
- Track outstanding receivables and follow up as needed.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations for all organizational accounts and resolve discrepancies timely.
- Maintain accurate vendor, donor, grant, revenue, expense, payroll support, and reimbursement records.
- Assist with tracking restricted grant funds by funder, program, project, and budget category.
- Maintain organized documentation for expenses, grant reports, audits, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews.
- Assist with payroll documentation, timekeeping records, reimbursement tracking, and accounting spreadsheets.
- Support monthly close, year-end close, audit preparation, and financial reporting requests.
- Follow BMCF internal controls, approval procedures, document retention policies, and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
- Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience required.
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Bill.com, Gusto, Excel, Google Sheets, or similar systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, transaction coding, and recordkeeping.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and deadline management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to the mission of Black Men Coalition Foundation.
- Experience tracking restricted grants, contracts, or program funds.
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and fund accounting.
- Experience preparing records for annual audits or funder monitoring.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership and accounting professionals.

Position Summary
The Black Men Coalition Foundation is seeking a qualified Part-Time CPA/CNAP to provide professional accounting oversight, nonprofit financial review, monthly close support, audit preparation, grant compliance support, and financial reporting assistance. This position will work approximately 20 hours per week and will partner with the Full-Time Bookkeeper and leadership team to ensure BMCF’s financial records are accurate, complete, compliant, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review accounting entries completed by the Bookkeeper for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure revenue and expenses are properly coded by program, grant, funder, department, class, and project.
- Review general ledger activity and identify corrections, adjustments, and reclassifications as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Prepare or review monthly financial statements, budget-to-actual reports, cash flow updates, and board reports.
- Review AP and AR activity for accuracy, approval, documentation, and proper revenue recognition.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations and ensure reconciliation support is retained.
- Support segregation of duties, internal controls, accounting workflows, and financial control improvements.
- Assist with restricted grant tracking, allowable cost review, funder reporting, and allocation methods.
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for annual audits and monitoring visits.
- Work with external auditors, tax preparers, leadership, and the Finance Committee as needed.
- Assist with Form 990 preparation support and other nonprofit compliance documentation.
- Support accounting policies, document retention practices, coding procedures, and staff training as needed.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
- CPA license preferred.
- CNAP, nonprofit accounting certification, or equivalent nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
- Strong experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant accounting, or financial reporting.
- Experience reviewing AP, AR, payroll support, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
- Knowledge of audit preparation, internal controls, nonprofit compliance, and financial reporting.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Bill.com, Gusto, Excel, Google Sheets, and accounting systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while providing professional accounting oversight.
- Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, ethical financial practices, and BMCF’s mission.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations with multiple grants and funding sources.
- Experience preparing financial reports for boards, funders, finance committees, and auditors.
- Experience supporting annual audits, grant monitoring, and Form 990 preparation.
- Experience developing accounting procedures, internal controls, and restricted fund tracking systems.
